Bedford Boomers

Championing Model Railroading, Railfaning and Railroad Preservation in New England since 1981

NO OFFICERS!     NO DUES!     NO POLITICS!
Next Meeting is Tuesday February 25th 7:00pm
This is a hybrid In-Person/Zoom meeting hosted from the Bedford Public Library.
The core of the Bedford Boomers are  informal modular model railroading groups with roots in southern New Hampshire. We actually have members in all six New England states as well as New York, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Our modular layout consists of individually constructed and owned modules that range from scale reproductions of prototype areas to dragons and Viking long boats. The primary concept being that model railroading is fun and organizations such as the Boomers should be inclusive, thus allowing the serious as well as beginners and the more fancifully creative to enjoy the hobby.

For 30  years the Boomers organized and sponsored an annual exhibition in Bedford, NH. The exhibition was always devoid of dealers and open free to the general public. Free will donations were gratefully accepted and were sufficient to defray expenses and on occasions assist with other activities supporting the hobby. Over 500 participating model railroaders and railfans filled the local middle school with trains each year. We estimate over 59,000 people attended over the life of the exhibition.

Today the Boomers remain very active in our local communities with activities including constructing or helping maintain permanent displays at the Goffstown, NH Historical Society; Bedford, NH Public Library; Manchester, NH VA Hospital & Nursing Home; and Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, ME. Over the years the Boomers have compiled a record of over 70 exhibitions, displays and charity activities including 13 consecutive “Father’s Days” (week long) displays at the Anheuser Busch Merrimack, NH Brewery Tour Center and in 2006 participated in the Manchester, NH YMCA annual fundraiser. In addition to our HO
modular layout, our enthusiastic O-Scale contingent often represents the Boomers at train shows and exhibitions around New Hampshire and New England.
